Based on the true story of Queen Caroline (Alicia Vikander) of Denmark and her love affair with German doctor Johann Friedrich Struensee (Mads Mikkelsen) who was her husband’s physician. In 1768, Struensee accompanies King Christian VII (Mikkel Boe Folsgaard) on a year long tour of Europe. Queen Caroline is impressed by the doctor and falls in love with him. Slowly, Struensee gains more and more influence and starts implementing reforms, based on his humanistic value system. This leads to his downfall, orchestrated by the aristocracy. A Royal Affair was a TIFF gala in Toronto, 2012. Winner Berlin Silver Bear Best Actor & Best Script.
