Bob Hunter
“In 1969, Bob Hunter co-founded the international environmental organization, Greenpeace, with a group of like-minded environmental activists in Vancouver. He served as the organization’s president for several years.
Recognized by Time Magazine as one of the “Eco-Heroes” of the 20th century, Hunter is credited with launching the modern environmental movement.
His campaigns — like protesting nuclear testing and commercial whaling – made an invaluable contribution to both the environment and our understanding of environmental issues.
Hunter was also a distinguished journalist, author and broadcaster. He wrote for major newspapers in Winnipeg and Vancouver, and won a Governor General’s Award for non-fiction for his book Occupied Canada: A Young White Man Discovers His Unsuspected Past. Hunter also served as CityTV’s ecology specialist from 1988 until he passed away last year. He was 63.”
