There are more films that feature the classic Bram Stoker vampire character Dracula than any other fictional character. More than the many Sky Walker’s, Batman or the 21 films that feature the international man of mystery: James Bond. For many Dracula is the first vampire and is the quintessential source for vampire lore. The never-ending vampire craze we see in films, television and music all owe something to Dracula. Unfortunately this isn’t the case with video games. Sure plenty of games let you wail on vampires (often in addition to ghouls and ghosts if you know what I mean) but how many games allow you to take on the role of an immortal bloodsucker? It is a sad fact that there are more games that feature a certain red clad plumber than there are games that feature Dracula even when counting every Castlevania game, even the ports. But gladly there are a few gems Dracula would be proud of and here there are. There are some criteria for the games on this list; they have to allow you to play as a vampire, they have to focus on them as well (so no Elder Scrolls games) and they have to be real games so no dating Sims.

The Legacy Of Kain: Blood Omen 2

The Blood Omen series is comprised of 2 duologies (Blood Omen 1 & 2; Soul Reaver 1&2) and a fifth game Defiance, that connects them. They feature the character of Kain: a vampire who is much more than anti-hero, he’s a downright villain. The Blood Omen games are set in the past and give you control of this evil sadist; the Soul Reaver games are set in the future and give you control of Raziel: a vampire turned demon on the hunt for Kain. The series was penned by Amy Hennig, who is currently master minding the Uncharted franchise at Naughty Dog. While these games are fantastic action adventures in their own right, it is the story they have to tell and their dark and decidedly vampire tone that propel them on to this list. While the Soul Reaver games are created to a higher standard and feature some truly unique puzzle design Blood Omen is no slouch and it features a Vampire instead of Raziel’s Demon.
