Funny Face

“I was taught that I ought not expose my inner senses…”

Any film with Audrey Hepburn is considered a classic. “Funny Face” undoubtedly deserves a good place in the niche of “golden films.” The film itself is light and funny and instantly enjoyable with it’s ‘rag to riches’ tale. All of the dances, songs and of course fashion are just adorable! They are able to take us back to that seemingly good and beautiful era, the era of innocence and inaccessibility. In many ways “Funny Face” is notable because of leading lady Audrey Hepburn.Hepburn herself is a symbol of purity and innocence. Whether she’s wearing a bookstore saleswoman “gray” outfit or her Givenchy dresses she always looks perfectly chic. The flamboyant magazine editor, Maggie Prescott played by Kay Thompson was said to be based off of a mix of Vogue editor of the time, Diana Vreeland and Harper’s bazaar editor, Carmel Snow.

The story of Audrey the heroine of “Funny Face” is really a new interpretation of the Cinderella fairy tale. A girl from the bookstore became the standard of beauty, style and feminine charm. Agreed, this is almost every girl’s dream, but it was not hers. Jo has never relied on her appearance, believing that she’s far from those stereotypical beauties with fake smiles on the cover of glamour magazines. It seemed that she did not see the beauty in herself; a real, natural and original brand of beauty. In truth, she didn’t have time for that. She was surrounded by so many books, thick tomes with strange names, sometimes understandable only to her alone, and she was so receptive and naïve, she was ready to do anything to attend the lectures of one of these pseudo-philosophers. And then fate gives her a chance – she finds herself in Paris, together with the owner of the main and most glamorous magazines for women and a charming photographer, played by Fred Astaire. And Paris, as we all know is the ‘City of Love’…

The September Issue

“Fashion’s not about looking back. It’s always about looking forward”

This is a 90 minute documentary about the creation of Vogue’s largest issue, and of course, about one of its most famous editors, Anna Wintour and the back and forth rapport between her and creative director, Grace Coddington.. Wintour: Editor in Chief of Vogue and one of the most internationally recognized women in America. “She’s busy. And she’s not warm and friendly.”– that’s what colleagues say about her. She’s direct, precise and straight to the point. It’s unlikely that someone will argue with her, her opinion is important. It’s because of her, the magazine has become a world fashion magazine. The September Issue showcases that fashion is not just a commercial project, it’s a way of seeing beauty. People who dictate fashion, do not just get this right, they earn it through years of work, devoting their entire lives to the industry, striving for what is excellent, harmonious and beautiful. The September Issue truly strives to depict the real human emotions that are embedded are in each picture that you see in a magazine, how much work and talent it takes to create even a single ‘collection’, worthy of fashionista attention.
