Mad Men will be returning for it’s fifth season this Sunday opening with a full 2-Hour Premiere. This is a huge reward for the long wait fans have had to endure since Season Four ended. The show has been off the air for a year and a half and with the story hitting such a note of change we can only speculate as to where the story will continue. They have been keeping secrets well. We might see Don three months into his marriage or 3 weeks before his wedding. Either way each situation provides for rich dramatization and the exploration of the show’s running themes.

While Jon Hamm takes center stage as Don Draper let’s not forget the other characters, essential to the story and each on the horizon of massive change. Here are our predictions as to what our favourite ad-men and women will be up to this season. There will be some significant surprises!

Peggy Olson (Elizabeth Moss):

Will challenge her role at SCDP and find an issue with the reluctance Don has to embrace his real identity. If Don’s new wife gets a job as a copywriter, Peggy will be the one to challenge it. Peggy will be intrigued about her role in the social environment of change. Her liberalist socialite friends will push her to join their crusades.

Don Drapper (Jon Hamm):

When Don decided to marry his secretary we knew his battle with his identity was far from over. He’ll face the same issue with emotional connection and honesty that he’s faced throughout the entirety of Mad Men. He’ll realize that he needs a relationship that understands his place in the world: physically and emotionally and will probably turn to Betty for this.

Joan Holloway (Christina Hendricks):

Will be raising her love child (Roger’s child) and attempting to keep up the facade of the happily married wife for her husband, the doctor (Sam Page) and coworkers. She will continue to epitomize the role expected of a smart, working woman in the 60’s. Roger will continue to lust for her.

Lane Pryce (Jared Harris):

This meticulous and loyal Englishman with a great deal of business savvy has a closet of complications to deal with. His marriage, his drinking, the cutthroat treatment from his past  employer (PPL), the peculiar relationship with his violent, overbearing father and his shocking romance with a black American Playboy bunny. He is definitely one of the team and an Ad Man through and through. He is a sort of white knight despite it all so expect something in that department.
