Bigger, better and more innovative IDS, Canada’s premiere international platform for interior design returns Jan. 24-27th, 2013 to the Toronto Convention Centre.
IDS has welcomed over 660,000 design professionals since 1999. In anticipation of IDS 2013 we asked the young interior designers at Age of Design to share some of their excitement. Age of Design’s principal designer Adriana Romano has been attending IDS for the past 8 years. She and project manager Kaity Patchett share their photo gallery and some notes from IDS 2012 as a teaser of what to expect this year.
IDS “… Each year world-renowned designers and architects participate as keynote speakers and create inspiring feature exhibits. Located in the city of Toronto… IDS provides an annual catalyst for millions of dollars spent on design”
IDS 2012 Highlights
The IDS Opening Night Party is always one of the city’s hottest events. Last year international designer Karim Rashid surprised the crowd as the DJ. He sported an eye catching pink hoodie with white pants. The over 5,000 guests, sipped cocktails and sampled outrageously yummy hors d’oeuvres amidst ice sculptures and a heady world of beautiful art and design.
Lumi Design:
Lumi Design could be considered one of the masters of interior lighting and their last year’s bathroom lighting exhibit was a masterpiece. Solving the problem of tricky bathroom lighting, Lumi showcased the sexy, sleek Kelly Backlit Mirror: a daytime-light mimicking lighting fixture that’s applied behind your mirror. With lighting this sexy you’ll never want to leave your bathroom.
Miele Kitchens:
Nobody does a kitchen quite like Miele. Last year’s exhibit featured a 3D Kitchen showcasing how technology is really affecting design and sales
Orange:
From the creamsicle kitchen to Joe Fresh’s exhibit, orange was everywhere. Being dubbed Pantone’s colour of 2012 is a sure fire way to guarantee that everything featured ‘orange’ and it was gorgeous.
