Superior Spider-Man: Goblin Nation by Dan Slott and Giuseppe Camuncoli (Marvel). The classic Spider-Man villain, Green Goblin, has been noticeably absent during the Superior Spider-Man run but this year he returns with a bang! “Goblin Nation is definitely a crescendo to the story we have been building in Superior Spider-Man” says Slott. The mysterious Goblin King has been amassing his forces underground and he’s ready to strike New York and challenge Spider-Man for dominance of the city. But who’s behind the Green Goblin mask? How will it affect Peter Parker’s return and what will be the fallout? Can’t wait…”Goblin Nation” begins in “Superior Spider-Man” #27 but you need to get #25 & 26 before hand.

Wonder Woman: Earth One by Grant Morrison and Yanick Paquette. DC is continuing to put out the series of Earth One original graphic novels after successfully releasing Superman Earth One Volume 1 and 2, and Batman Earth One. With Wonder Woman Earth One (120-page book subtitled The Trial of Diana Prince) Morrison explores feminist theory and incorporates gender relations. The story follows Diana’s first adventure as the Amazons bring her home and put her on trial for leaving the island and joining the “man’s world” with Steve Trevor. The graphics previews are magical. (Release TBD)

Multiversity by Grant Morrison and artists: Cameron Stewart, Frank Quitely. I know, 2 Morrison picks (Wonder Woman) in one list, but Morrison has been talking about Multiversity for so long and I want this to happen so badly that I had to pencil it in. The series will be nine (40-page) issues exploring the DC Multiverse with 7 different artists for 7 different issues. Each comic will take place in a different parallel universe and feature a different storytelling approach. This comic is set post-World War 3 where the planet’s human population has been decimated to 2 billion and told from the perspective of Lady Blackhawk, the Atom, Immortal Man and the children of superheroes living in a utopian world where the superheroes have brought world peace. If this one comes out, it will be a sweet ride.

Asterix and the Picts. If you need a break from all the new Marvels coming out, let Asterix be your salvation. Asterix and the Picts is the 35th volume in this long-running series of Franco-Belgian graphic novels. It’s also the first to send Asterix and Obelix to Scotland. Perhaps a more significant first is that this is the first volume not handled by co-creator Albert Uderzo. It’s a new era for a classic series, and it’s good to see that these Gaulish warriors will continue to thrive as the torch is passed to a new pair of creators Jean-Yves Ferri & Didier Conrad.
