Byzantium

Fri July 12th
Genre: Thriller
Director: Neil Jordan
Studios: Mongrel Media
Starring: Gemma Arterton, Saoirse Ronan, Daniel Mays, Caleb Landry Jones

Synopsis: A bloodsucking tale that marks the director’s first foray into vampire
territory since his award-winning 1994 Interview with the Vampire. Sexy 20 something Clara (Arterton) and cerebral 16-year-old Eleanor (Ronan) pass themselves off as sisters. But Clara is actually mother
to Eleanor, both preserved at the ages they became vampires over 200 years ago. They are “soucriants” a kind of vampire who’s thumbnail grows into pointed talon for slitting victims. Clara takes blood from
lowlife males like pimps and misogynists. Eleanor, on the other hand, opts for the elderly or ill who are near life’s end. Nevertheless, both
Clara and Eleanor have to feed and, hence, they murder and move on. The two have landed in an English seaside town where Clara meets a
lonely man (Daniel Mays) who invites them to stay at the Byzantium, his late mother’s hotel that has seen better days. No stranger to prostitution, Clara turns the place into a brothel. Meanwhile, Eleanor befriends Frank (Caleb Landry Jones), a sick teen who bleeds easily. When Eleanor breaks
the code of silence and tells Frank her secret, the consequences are deadly.

When it develops that Kovac is in fact a former Serbian soldier bent on revenge, there begins a one-on-one confrontation and battle between the two throughout the harsh mountain environment.

Pacific Rim

Genre: Sci-fi, Action
Director: Guillermo del Toro
Studios: Warner Bros. Pictures

To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, that are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.

On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes, a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and a new, untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi). Together, they are mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
