Steven Spielberg brings The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, an action adventure movie that is the kickoff of a much larger franchise created by Georges Prosper Remi (Herge), to the screen. Starring voice and action; Jamie Bell (Tintin), Andy Serkis (Captain Haddock) and Daniel Craig (Racham/Sakharine), this is a movie that will surely win your heart.

The Tintin comics enabled many boys like me, to travel the world in our imaginations. I still love the series and enjoy the many satirical references to history and politics of the 20th century. Tintin holds such an important role in France/Belgian culture and it was there that I grew up and fell in love with Tintin. Spielberg has masterfully brought Tintin to life for me with this movie version and Herge would be proud. Hergé was inducted into the Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2003.

Spielberg has stayed true to Herge’s portrayal of these loveable, sometimes eccentric characters. Tintin’s freckled face is totally captivating. We join intrepid reporter Tintin and Captain Haddock as they set off on a grandiose journey, a treasure hunt to find a sunken ship.

Tintin, will attract two types of viewers, those familiar with Herge’s comic book series and those who are not. Georges Prosper Remi, better known as Herge, is the internationally acclaimed Belgium comic book writer and artist of the 23 comic books “The Adventures of Tintin” that make up the series. The uniqueness of the Tintin stories include their vivid humanism with their realistic feel due to meticulous research and Hergé’s ligne claire drawing style. The first Tintin journal about Tintin and his dog, Snowy traveling to Russia was published in 1929.

Steven Spielberg’s decision to make “The Adventures of Tintin” using Weta-powered motion-capture, computer-animated technology, rather than a live action or fully animated approach, was intuitive. The animation and special effects are incredible. Excellent family entertainment! I
