Teen summer romance movies are always popular and ‘The Art of Getting By’ will definitely be on the list. The title itself alludes to the one great dream of most teens. George (Freddie Highmore; Finding Neverland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) is a lonely, fatalistic teen. He is very naïve and lazy but he has the good luck to meet and become friends with a kindred spirit, the beautiful, complicated Sally (Emma Roberts; Scream 4). “Everything seems meaningless including this assignment unfortunately”.
George is in the kind of trouble many teens find themselves in about this time of year – ultimatums and painful decisions that usually involve serious choices about life and one’s future? “Your future depends on the next few months.” In truth all that really interests teens at this age is having fun, having a relationship and hanging out. George does a lot of doodling, a lot of dreaming and a lot of sudden growing up. This is not just another coming of age movie. The ‘Art of Getting By’ is entertaining, insightful, funny and has a great sound track.
Recommended for a wide range of audiences.
