The cheetah is built for sheer speed. The world’s fastest animal it can reach speeds of 110 kilometers per hour. They can only sustain this level of exertion for about 100 meters at a time and are exhausted after a hunt or flight. When the hunt is over the cheetah lies for up to half an hour before recovering to feed. During these times they are very vulnerable to attack from hyaenas, jackals and vultures. They lead a very precarious existence and are often chased away from a kill. The cheetah seeks out high points of land such as a fallen tree or termite mound, a vantage point to survey the savanna for the next prey or predator. The law of the savanna is ever present. One false move means death.
Spectacular! A celebration of Earth’s remarkable beauty.
