Sons of Ram Review

Posted 10 years ago by myetvmedia

Set in the lush world of Indian mythology, Kushal Ruia’s Sons of Ram combines fresh animation with some great voice work and musical numbers to deliver a pretty good movie about family, destiny and love.

Forced to banish his wife Sita (Sunidhi Chauhan), the warrior-king Ram (Saptharsi Ghosh) is plagued with guilt and nightmares. Unknown to him, Sita has given birth to two children and is raising them alone in an isolated mountain village. Luv and Kush (Aditya Kapdia and Devansh Doshi), the children, are wild, creative, fiery and caring. Without knowing their heritage, they are raised to idolise Rama, and dream of visiting the city he rules. When a lost horse wanders into their path, events quickly spiral out of control and they may well have to go to war with their father and his armies.

The only possible criticism I could give is that it may be intimidating for anyone who doesn’t know their Indian mythology. However, if you don’t know the mythology, it’s still good. If you do, it’s better. I don’t think that criticism is entirely fair, because it is an Indian movie, based on Indian mythology, created for an Indian audience, but it will be an issue for a western audience.

Recommended, but try to read some of the history beforehand.
