This superb drama, inspired by a true story that took place in 1996, is a story of the ability of the human spirit to win against even the most terrifying odds. High in the Algerian Mountains a group of Trappist monks finds themselves caught between a military government and extremist guerrillas. Director Xavier Beauvois who also adapted the story for screen with Etienne Comar, has done an extraordinary job recreating this story of faith and human spiritualism. The sound track for the movie is original and uplifting and the reality of the characters and setting very engaging. The ties of fraternity and spirituality, of personal acceptance and belief and the importance of living by example is riveting and inspiring.

Of Gods and Men is a French film with subtitles and has won multiple international awards. It was first shown at Cannes last year and has finally gained enough momentum to capture the awards and attention it deserves. A timely movie that is really enjoyable.  We highly recommend it.
