Hot Docs is here again!

The Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival April 26 – May 6 features 189 documentary films from 51 countries in 11 categories.  The HOT Docs FESTIVAL has something for all film lovers. Music -Marley biopic; political dynasties Ethel; activism (China) AI WeiWei; (Africa) Meanwhile in Marmelodi; humour - The Final Member (Iceland); freedom of speech, the world of Anonymous - Hacktavist; Fashion – the multibillion dollar cosmetics industry; gaming Indie Game: The Movie; spectacular scenic beauty (Chasing Ice) and much more.

This 19th Festival Edition is getting a lot of attention. New to Hot Docs this year is the proactive program called Nightvision,  similar to TIFF’s Midnight MadnessHot Docs has a freshly refurbished headquarters at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema and a new programming Director, Charlotte Cook. Get your tickets for Hot Docs Live! Simulcast screenings of CHINA HEAVYWEIGHT and INDIE GAME: THE MOVIE. will be made in 35 theatres across Canada.*

With 189 docs to choose from the myETVmedia team did some serious research to help make your Hot Doc experience fantastic. Below are our film choices.

After going over all 189 docs our final picks went along with Hot Docs’s main category: Special Presentation which seems to be the road to go in getting ‘the best of the best’ from all categories. This includes the International & Canadian premieres where the filmmakers will be in attendance themselves and do an audience Q & A afterwards.

#1: We cannot miss the opening night with Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry Thurs April 26, 6:30 PM Bloor Hot Doc theatre. Cdn Premiere.

#2: The Ambassador: the Sundance Award winning director Brugger will come up with while he goes undercover with an diplomatic passport to expose corruption in Liberia. Fri, April 27, 4:00PM, Bader. Cdn Premiere.

#3: Meanwhile in Mamelodi: The extraordinary, uplifting, true story of how the World Cup held in Africa 2010 impacts a very poor South African family living in a village with no electricity or running water. Fri April 27th, 9:30PM TBLB, North American Premiere.

#4:  About Face: Supermodels, Then and Now: Intrigued to hear the insider info on aging – the multibillion $ business of being beautiful. Sat, April 28, 3:30, Bloor, Cdn Premiere
