Here Comes the Devil Review

Posted 10 years ago by myetvmedia

When two children disappear on a walk, their parents (Francisco Barreiro and Laura Caro) are understandably distraught. Though the kids are soon found safe, something has changed in them. Something bad happened in the hills, and now the family has to deal with it.

Citing both The Entity and Picnic at Hanging Rock as inspirations, Here comes the devil is a weird, trippy and unsettling horror movie that blends the supernatural with the all-too human horror of sexual abuse. Director Adrian Garcia Bogliano combines subtle horror with just enough overt gore, letting the real horror happen behind closed doors.

It’s just a good horror movie, pushing different buttons and blending different kinds of horror into something new and appropriately scary. There is the occasional niggle, and the children’s acting leaves a little to be desired, but overall it’s a rock solid piece of film. Winner of the Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress at the 2012 Fantastic Fest.
