‘Living in the Material World’ is such an apt title for the George Harrison documentary since it ironically defined his life long struggle. Scorsese has expertly used a standard documentary/bio technique to unfold George’s story with carefully chosen excerpts from many sources. These include George himself at a variety of ages on screen, events, letters and of course his songs and poetry. Various revelations by close friends, family, the other Beatles, press excerpts and business connections assembled by Scorsese portray George as all at once youthfully pensive, funny, philosophical, spiritual and sometimes angry. The breadth of material caused Scorsese to present the bio on George Harrison in 2 parts.
We love the Beatles as a group and in their own right and now yet another generation has discovered their music and is equally captivated.
