Diablo 3 VS Diablo Predecessors:

Diablo 3 is in a single play-through much shorter than its predecessor. A play-through of Diablo 3 will take you around 13 or 14 hours whereas Diablo 2 could easily take twice as long. However what you have heard is true, the game really only begins when you hit nightmare mode.

Diablo 3 is designed for everyone to play through on multiple difficulties not just the best players. The difficulty level of nightmare is comparable to normal from the Diablo 2 through Blizzard has added a fourth difficulty to account for this change and inferno mode is truly backbreaking hard. Higher difficulty levels make things tougher with bigger mobs, more elite units and more abilities for those elites. However you will often get completely owned through hell mode without the best gear and that’s where the auction house comes into play. Rather than farm the game for gear players now have the option of auctioning gear through a gold auction or a real money auction. This serves two purposes; to allow people who don’t want to farm an alternative and to dissuade the illegal item market that plagues Diablo 2. After all Blizzard should give the people what they want and a lot of people want to buy items in Diablo with real dollars.

It is worth noting that Blizzard takes a chunk of all sales whether or not players cash out to a service like paypal. But the amount to the individual, often times a dollar or two is minute and the auction house’s legitimacy means that the value of items will always be reasonable and fall in line with what is the norm for free to play games. Do not have any dissolutions this is a skill based game, there is no “pay to win”. Better gear does not make you more skilled than other players and there really is no way to avoid people affecting the community with real world currency just as in Diablo 2.

Diablo 3 has made it easier than ever to play with friends. At any time players can hit a button to open their game to the public, which allows any players in the same level bracket to jump into your game cooperatively. You can also open your friends list and jump into their games should they be open. Which brings me to a great point of controversy. Diablo 3 requires an internet connection, not just to activate the game but to play altogether.
