Crysis 2

The Multilayer.

Conformity is a curse and Crysis 2 is afflicted. The same level based upgrade system that was born of Call of Duty is featured here and it is sour and same. Thankfully the kill streaks of COD are scaled back and available based on the chosen map. Every player has the ability to customize a class though all will be able to use both armor and stealth nanosuit abilities. This is at first fun and different but proves to be unbalanced as a game full of shooting where anyone can go invisible at any time and jump like a kangaroo on methamphetamine – it is just frustrating. The unbalanced nature of the game devolves the play to a single winning strategy. Crysis 2 does add some dynamic play in a mode where a capture point will randomly drop on a map but it doesn’t compete with Kill Zone 3‘s operations or Black Ops’ plethora of modes.

Conclusions.

Crysis 2 is an excellent sequel and a bright new future for the series. The campaign outshines competitors like Kill Zone 3 and Black Ops though a weak story and voice acting hold it back. A unique multilayer would have gone a long way but Crytek chose the safe and boring bet that will only hold players for so long. Buy Crysis 2 for the campaign and let’s hope that the third installment has a killer tale to tell.
