A Most Violent Year Review

Posted 9 years ago by myetvmedia

A Most Violent year is fast paced, with a layered plot that is skillfully laid out. The height of the action and tension comes with a chase sequence through a New York subway tunnel. You really just can’t tell where it’s going to end. Cinematographer, Brad Young has to be commended for making this film feel authentic to the 80’s while avoiding the kitsch that is usually associated with the era. Young’s imagery is stunning, from filling a room with a smoky atmosphere or giving us a retro wide shot. On a technical front, A Most Violent year is a masterpiece from the production values to costume design and settings. Clothes are steeped in 80’s earthy tones, Jessica Chastain is outfitted in Giorgio Armani, furniture is revamped mid century modern, filing cabinets are lined with metallics and the cars – oh the cars!

A Most Violent year was a most satisfying watch. Highly recommended.
