Johnny Depp’s latest flick The Rum Diary staring Johnny Depp, Giovanni Ribisi, Aaron Eckhart and Amber Heard is one of the must-see movies of the weekend. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Gonzo journalist (a style of reporting: Gonzo journalism) and author Hunter S. Thompson.

Director Bruce Robinson (“Jennifer Eight”, With Nail and I) swore 17 years ago never to work for Hollywood. Robinson felt studio interference had a lot to do with the disasterous outcome of Jennifer Eight. “I was very resistant to being a film director ever again, but if you are sort of being bullied by the No. 1 box office star and he has that kind of confidence in you; it’s hard to say no” says Robinson about this new film with Johnny Depp.

Paul Kemp is (Johnny Deep) an itinerant journalist who grows tired of New York and 1950’s America under the Eisenhower administration, travels to the island of Puerto Rico to write for the San Juan Star. Kemp new lifestyle begins the habit of drinking rum, getting to know the expatriates who live there and he and becomes obsessed with a woman named Chenault (Amber Heard).
