The Emmys Are The New Oscars. Get on it Sunday Night on ABC.
The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards LIVE! Sunday, September 23, 7e/4p ABC.
The Primetime Emmy’s have arrived marking the 64th year of awarding excellence in Primetime Television programming. Don’t get confused with the Daytime Emmy’s which are for, you guessed it, daytime programming. The Primetime Emmy’s bring you the best from comedy to drama to docs and everything in between. This is a pretty exciting year, with the lineup of awards set to honour some of the best stories I’ve ever encountered. The evolution of television programming has been a seriously exhilarating ride. Ever since the premiere of “Lost”we’ve seen TV programming take it up a notch for what is really the future of entertainment. Seriously folks, TV is the new Film. Does that make The Emmy’s the new Oscars? Hmm Here’s what I’m excited for at this year’s 64th Primetime Emmy Awards:
This year HBO’s latest hit, GIRLS is up for The Outstanding Comedy Series Award pitted against heavy hitters: The Big Bang Theory, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Modern Family, 30 Rock and Veep. “Girls” may have a hard time winning against those odds however the nomination is a massive accomplishment for a show that’s only had one year. (Mental high five to Judd Apatow for lasting more than one season with this show, hey-oh!) as well Lena Dunham who is up for three nominations this year, one of them for The Outstanding Lead actress in a comedy award. Not bad for a newbie.
30 Rock and Modern Family are going to sweep the Comedy department at the Emmy’s for a second year in a row with 37 nominations between the two shows. In the Drama department it’s a complete toss up in my opinion with Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Downtown Abbey, Game of Thrones and Mad Men, all up for awards. Although if Mad Men wins this prestigious award this year they’ll set the record for most Emmy Wins as a drama series, beating out previous record holders The West Wing and Hill Street Blues. Side note: If Peter Dinklage doesn’t win again for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a drama series for his role of Tyrion Lannister in HBO’s Game of Thrones I will lose all faith in humanity.
When American Horror Story was picked up for a second season fans gave a collective sigh of relief because originally it was only intended to air as a mini series. American Horror Story is now up for the Outstanding Miniseries or Movie award and it is justly deserved since the 12- part Season One is one of the greatest things to come across the small screen. (But seriously, it’s probably the 3rd best show in the history of all shows, ever. EVER, SERIOUSLY WATCH IT NOW. Ahhh!)
