Summer Hair 2013

Posted 10 years ago by myetvmedia

The summer sunshine has arrived and with it a season full of music festivals, pool parties – disaster zones for a perfectly styled blow out. So in the interest of maintaining that “effortlessly” chic illusion we’ve pulled our favourite looks from the runway to keep those tresses in check no matter what your weekend has in store.

Scarves

Featured at both Marc by Marc Jacobs and Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring/Summer 2013 shows, the hair scarf is the perfect accessory to keep that mane in line and your style on point. Styled here with a voluminous, 60’s-esque up-do, Dolce & Gabbana keeps things sleek and sophisticated, while Marc by Marc stays playful with a messier twist.

Pinned back/ Half up

This simple but elegant look is perfect for adding interest when wearing hair down and is a great way to keep tresses off your face during those balmy days. Get creative by twisting hair and pinning—no need to worry about hiding the bobby pins this season. Add a little glamour with metallic accessories as seen at Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2013.

Messy side braid/ fishtail

Still love. We’ve seen this look on runways for a few seasons but are nowhere near tired of it. Totally classic, great for all hair types and simple to execute (provided you have the most basic braiding skills) the messy side braid is the ideal style for beach days. Wet or dry, with or without a mirror, a messy side-braid can remedy any hair disaster. Two of our favourite examples are from Alexander Wang’s Spring Summer 2010 and Lela Rose Spring Summer 2011. Take it to the next step with a fishtail braid as in the Tory Burch Spring Summer 2013. This look can be achieved by braiding a conventional fishtail and then pulling pieces of the hair to give it an edgy look.

The Headband

We can thank Baz Luhrmann and his most recent rendition of the Great Gatsby for the return of 1920’s chic. Throughout the film headbands and head scarves are a huge feature. Make the look contemporary and beach friendly by pairing the headband with more relaxed or tousled hair. Headbands á la 1960s were also a big feature on the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2013 runways. Much like Dolce & Gabbana’s scarves these were seen pared with big volume beehive buns and twists.
