Rune: A Retrospective

Posted 11 years ago by myetvmedia

Sure it’s old, it looks old and its mechanics are fairly simple but Rune is a testament to how spirit and design can keep an old game entertaining. I love playing the original Zelda, even to this day. The newer Zelda games look and play better but the original will never lose its charm. Human Head Studios are hella talented and have given us a game or two well ahead of their time; Prey and recently we have seen Prey 2 enter some accursed development hell due to the woe that is contractual dispute. But hey, they have gotta keep working and have since returned to Rune, there will be  a Rune 2 and all I hope and pray for is that Rune doesn’t lose that something special.

Sure Rune 2 will feature brutal viking combat and undoubtedly the touch of modern gaming but a grave mistake would be to forget where Rune lies, it’s roots and that I can assure you is much more than Quake with swords.
