PS3 / XBOX 360
For PS3 and XBOX 360 owners this is the time to go back and make sure you didn’t miss any of the amazing titles from 2013. If you haven’t had a chance to play these games make sure they are on your wish list:
The Last Of Us
PS3
Released: June 14, 2013
Why you need it:
If you haven’t played through The Last of Us you are missing out on what is in my opinion the most engaging story in video game history. It is the tale of two survivors living in a post apocalyptic world and their journey across the United States. The Last of Us sucks you in from the very first cut scene with its phenomenal voice acting and cinematic presentation. You literally feel like you’re playing a movie and it’s impossible to put it down. At times I found myself wandering aimlessly through abandoned houses, wondering about what happened to the people who once lived there. The story is that engrossing and the The Last of Us is that good. The gameplay is challenging, fun and varied and the game feels fresh throughout the entire ten-hour journey; an emotional ride unlike anything I have experienced in a video game. It is worth purchasing a PS3 just to play this game.
Highlights:
- Fully realized world with clean visuals
- Excellent combat, gathering and crafting systems that encourage cunning and reward patience
- Beautiful soundtrack
Tomb Raider
Xbox 360, PS3
Released: March 5, 2013
Why you need it:
This reboot of Tomb Raider features a Lara Croft origin story that breathes new life into the series. It’s a well balanced game with a nice mix of fast paced action sequences and slower climatic moments. It does a great job of developing the character of Lara as she transforms into the heroine we know and love.
Highlights:
- Excellent running/climbing mechanics offer an element of risk without sacrificing fluidity
- Beautifully developed Island setting
- Story will keep you on the edge of your seat with plenty of intense moments
