GOTY PC – The Witcher 2

PC Gaming? I thought that was dead? Oh wait I forgot, there are more people playing games on personal computers than there are gamers playing on the other three consoles combined. PC gaming is alive and well thanks to phenomena like the new technology ‘steam’ and the undeniably popular online game ‘Farmville’. The hardcore crowd has however had a bit of a tough time, as developers move away from PC development citing piracy as their main motivation to leave this platform. CDProjekt has released ‘The Witcher 2’ title without a fear of the evil Internet pirates. Their game features no copy protection. In essence anyone who does not want to pay for the game will have zero trouble in obtaining it, but the people who do respect the working man/woman/monkey can and will do the honourable thing and pay. Paying customers will have a product they have yearned for: a PC game without the bullshit, intrusive, fucking utterly retarded copy protection that many other platforms are now spending exorbitant time and money on and engaging in invasion of players’ privacy to boot in the process.

‘The Witcher 2’ is not just a PC game without copy protection; it’s a rad game. ‘The Witcher 2’ is the best computer game I have played since StarCraft 2 and the best role-playing game since ‘Dragon Age: Origins’. It is the best looking game I have ever played and features a fantasy world so rich the only comparable piece of fiction is ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ (HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ TV series). If you have a beastly PC and enjoy RPGs then I highly recommend that you pick this up, otherwise sit tight for next year’s Xbox version. Sure ‘Skyrim’ is fantastic but it does not change up its formula as intensely as ‘The Witcher 2’ has and its story is not nearly as entertaining. ‘Portal 2′ also gets a nod as possibly the best puzzle game ever.
