Bart Simpson’s Treehouse of Horror is an annual ‘Simpsons’ Fox Broadcasting Company special episode. It is also a classic of the Halloween comic kingdom. In 1995, Matt Groening‘s Bongo Comics Group, a company specializing in ‘Simpsons’ and ‘Futurama’ based publications, began a series of comic book adaptations of the Treehouse of Horror series to be published annually for Halloween. Nineteen issues were published between 1995 and 2013.
The series features guest artists and writers parodying modern horror films & stories, and have distorted versions of The Simpsons TV character’s. Originally, only writers from other comic book companies were invited to submit scripts to be drawn by Bongo staff. With the fifth issue (1999) artists were also allowed to submit, with Bongo only supplying the lettering and colours at most. Some of those creators include Mike Allred (Madman, Fantastic Four), Chuck Dixon (Batman), Garth Ennis (Preacher, Punisher), Gail Simone (Batgirl), Stan Sakai (Usagi Yojimbo), Eric Powell (The Goon), and Paul Dini (Batman).
