Do you have the winter blahs? Rebel against Mother Nature at her winter cruelest. Here are 8 tips to help you embrace the most stunning beauty trends that Spring Fashion runways have to offer. Bring on the mint tones and floral prints! We asked Marijke Buursma, make-up artist at Toronto’s Make Me Up, to share some of her secret tips on getting that ‘Spring Girl fabulous’ look.
Our hair and makeup inspiration comes straight off the Spring/Summer 2013 runways at Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week (WMCFW). So saddle up with your arsenal of lipstick and hairspray, have some fun and show Mother Nature who’s the boss.
1. Big Bold Eyebrows:
“Quit fighting the brows you’ve been blessed with. The ‘over-plucking days’ are finished,”says Marijke Buursma. Instead try a simple “cleanup” routine to “get rid of those pesky strays, filling in any sparse areas with a brow pencil.”
Buursma recommends The Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil by Sephora.
“Its unique formula provides the consistency of a wax, the precision of a pencil and the finish of a powder. The pencil’s angled shape makes shaping brows a snap, just use short strokes to fill in any bald spots or sparse areas or to elongate your brows to create a more polished, dimensional brow.”
Another suggestion for taming those unruly brows is clear mascara.
“Just brush through your brows and the gel-like consistency will keep your brows in place all day.”
2. That Healthy Glow:
“The key to the dewy, all natural look is great skincare & hydration” Buursma explains.
“Drink lots of water and remember, take care of your skin in both the morning and the night. This includes ALWAYS washing off your make-up and exfoliating one or twice a week during the harsh winter months. A moisture mask once a week is a great idea for replenishing your skin in the drying months to come.”
3. The All-Natural Look:
To create that beautiful “no-makeup” eye Buursma says it’s all about creating an even tone on the lid. “I like to use a cream shadow that does double duty as a primer, like MAC’s Paint Pots in Soft Ochre for fair skin, Painterly for medium tones or Rubenesque for a little something more.”
Keeping it simple and neutral is key to this look.
“To amp up the look, you can blend a medium shadow tone into the crease. Finish with a thin cream liner in brown, along the upper lid. My favourite is Shiseido’s Accentuating Cream Kohl Eyeliner in #2.And using an angled liner brush, softly press a brown shadow into your lower lash line. Finally an ab-fab mascara to seal the deal, Shiseido’s Perfect Mascara Defining Volume in Black or Brown. “
