Killzone 3

When you’re not alone during the campaign you will have an artificial intelligence partner who can revive you if your down, you might think this would make things a little easy but it does not. You wont want to rely on this as your companion takes a while to get to you and if you have taken too much damage from say a nasty machine gun burst your toast. This is nice because often you had to run around playing medic for the AI in kill zone 2 and you wont have to here.

The weapons in kill zone 3 are fun and varied, allot of the guns from kill zone 2 return albeit with improvements like red dot sights. The lighting gun from kill zone 2 is gone thankfully as it was way overpowered (it never ran out of ammo) though enemies in the campaign will use it (a nice challenge). The overpowered lighting gun is replaced by a far cooler science fiction gun that has limited ammo and is devastatingly powerful (in a good way). The weapons in killzone 3 feature an auto aim in the campaign but it isn’t the nooby snap auto aiming in call of duty (where you can lock on to a target and then cycle through all the bad guys in your field of vision). The auto aim works like a magnet that will pull your dot sight to an enemy that is close to your crosshairs, it works well and is implemented far better than other comparable shooters.

You can play killzone 3 completely with the play station move; it works well and is probably the best implementation of the move yet though the standard dual shock controller is far more accurate and quick. Ps3 move users really wont have an advantage online.

THE MULTIPLAYER

The multilayer in Killzone 3 blows every other online console shooter out of the water, forget Black Ops, Killzone 3 is the new standard. The entire campaign of Killzone 3 can be played locally via split screen, the screen is divided vertically with no option to switch oddly enough but this is nit picking. Playing the campaign a second time with a buddy over the course of a Saturday is even more fun than going through it solo. The online competitive play however is the main star of the show; there are 3 modes and all of them are great. Guerilla warfare is the genre standard team death match, its exactly what you would expect but it is quite good. War Zone is Killzone’s answer to the multitude of game types offered by the competition, the objectives in War Zone are constantly changing over the course of a single map with each objective acting as a mini game type; you might start a match with body count (team death match) and then be given a recover mission (capture the flag err…. propaganda speaker) and then engage in a little assassination (one side attempts to take out a single enemy player while the opposing team defends that player).
