The Inaugural Toronto Italian Contemporary Film Festival ICFF

Something wonderful is coming to Toronto, Canada, June 26th through July 1st – the Italian Contemporary Film Festival ICFF . The Inaugural Italian Contemporay Film Festival was announced at a press conference held at Toronto’s Alimento Restaurant. Toronto will see a wonderful lineup of contemporary new Italian Cinema, which will feature 16 North American premieres of comedies, drama, documentaries and short film. There will be 6 days of screenings and receptions with a grand finale at TIFF Bell Lightbox where the winners of the two inaugural awards will be announced.

Films shown during the Italian Contemporary Film Festival include international, national and local Italian Films that celebrate the diversity in Italian culture.

The awards created for the Italian Contemporary Film Festival are the People’s Choice Award. This award for Best Feature will be determined by the audience through ballots cast at each screening.

The second award is the Angela Baldassarre Award given to the Best Film. The award is given in honour of Angela who was a member of the TFCA and was a gifted film critic who lost her battle with cancer in November 2007. 

The lineup of 16 films will include:

Woody Allen’s To Rome With Love and Actress Monica Nappi will attend the Canadian Premiere.

La Kryptonite Nella Borsa (Kryptonite!) is the directorial debut for director Ivan Cotroneo who is the screenwriter for the highly acclaimed I Am Love. He will be present at the North American Premiere.

La Scomparasa Di Pato (The Vanishing of Pato) will be attended by the director Rocco Mortelliti for the Canadian Premiere

Posti In Piedi In Paradiso ( A Flat For Three) will have its North American Premiere and Actor Pier Francesco Favino will attend the event

Il Gioellino (The Jewel) by acclaimed director Andrea Molaioli (The Girl By The Lake) will be a Canadian Premiere.

Habemus Papam (We Have A Pope) Director Nanni Moretti  and writers Nanni Moretti and Francesco Piccolo bring this wonderful comedy starring Michel Piccoli to the ICFF.  The story takes a satirical peek behind Vatican Walls following the death of the Pope as the Conclave meets to elect his successor. A cardinal is chosen who seems unable to bear the weight of such a responsibility. The faithful are waiting for the new Pope to appear on the balcony in St. Peter’s Square. The world is on tenterhooks, while in the Vatican they seek ways to come through the crisis.
