Thanks for Sharing Review

Posted 10 years ago by myetvmedia

Directed by Stuart Blumberg, Thanks for Sharing is a romantic comedy with an R rating that revolves around the lives of several very different New Yorkers, all connected by one embarrassing thing. They’re all sex addicts. You’ve got Neil (Josh Gad from The Internship), a young ER doctor who straps cameras to his shoes to film up skirts and rubs women on the subway, Tim Robbins as Mike, who gave his wife (Carol Kane) Hepatitis C and used to beat his son, and Mark Ruffalo as Adam, who has gone from one extreme to the other, refusing even to have a TV in case of temptation. A stellar cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow and Pink (Alecia Moore). We get to see addiction and temptation from all stages, with Neil in the beginning, accepting he has a problem and coming to terms with it, Adam at the middle stage, where he’s learning to control it, and Mike at the end, where it all seems to be holding together and he has to deal with the consequences of his previous actions.

This movie is solidly average. Great cast, likable characters, very little to rock the boat. It’s serious when it needs to be, gives well-thought out internal and external conflicts, it can be funny, thoughtful, but it’s strictly by the numbers. There are better and worse movies out there, but it would be perfect for a quiet winter night in-doors. Someone who must be applauded, though, is Alecia Moore (better known to many as Pink). She is a genuine revelation as an actor, and cannot be commended enough.

Okay, with the occasional flash of brilliance, but nothing worth writing home about. Deals in a humorous way with subject matter that is highly relevant. Rated R for language and some strong sexual content.
