Killzone 3

War Zone is fantastic and many of the maps feature the jet packs and walking tanks from the campaign and they are integrated masterfully. Operations is the best mode and the most unique, it is similar to War Zone but the objectives are set though dynamic (there are possibilities for both success and failures on each side), operations is kind of like a multi player story; with the ISA playing attacker and the Helghans playing defense. If you do well in operations you will be featured in little cut scenes in between objectives where you might see your Helghan avatar smashing in a poor enemy players head with a rifle butt. Unfortunately there are only a handful of maps available in Killzone 3 (about 10) and only three of them are tooled for operations, but what is offered is amazing; every map is good and Guerilla games has already announced upcoming map packs.

Killzone 3 is a class based shooter; it falls in somewhere between call of duty and team fortress 2. Each class is fun and flexible and can be effective in battle (unlike some of the classes in Killzone 2); they all have unique and useful abilities that all feel drastically different which is a great thing. Killzone 3 has a ranking system like other popular online shooters; playing matches will net you experience points, which build your rank and earn you, unlock points that you can dish out on new weapons or class abilities. The points can be spent anywhere you would like which is also great, meaning if you want to play an infiltrator but hate the starting weapon (shotgun) you can earn points as any other class and then buy a better weapon for the infiltrator class. Killzone 3‘s multiplayer is leaps and bounds better than Killzone 2 and is a definite contender for your next online obsession.

THE FINAL WORD

Killzone 3 is a fantastic game and is definitively the play station 3‘s best first person shooter, the short but sweet campaign (about 6-8 hours) is excellently executed and playable with a buddy, it is held back only by some bad story elements. The multi player is the star of the show and eclipses other games online offerings, it is balanced, fun and addicting though I would have liked to see more maps built for the terrific Operations mode.
