#5 – Goldfinger

The 1964 Theme song for  the film, Goldfinger was written by the hit composer duo of Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley and the King of The Bond Song, John Barry. Bricusse and Newley were also responsible for numerous movie hits, including the music behind Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and that instantly recognizable track in Home Alone- Somewhere in my Memory.Goldfinger was performed by Shirley Bassey and was Bassey’s only Billboard Hot 100 top 40 hit. It’s been covered and parodied countless times from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to They Might Be Giants ,who created a “Dr Evil” version for the 1999 hit :  Austin Powers: The Spy who shagged me. Those select few who haven’t watched Goldfinger know the theme song, and that instantly recognizable tune well. That may have something to do with it’s distinct inspiration drawn from the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Theme Song “ Moon River”.
