The indelible impression created by Sean Connery in the first Bond movie, the subsequent reinforcement of the character and the originality of these movies has made them most memorable. Here is a quick recap of the sequence of Bond movies and the introduction of each newly minted Bond character.
Roger Moore stepped into the Bond role in 1973 in Live and Let Die and the movie became a box office success, the most viewed broadcast film in the UK. The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) starring Moore again was a turning point in the Bond series as Broccoli became sole producer. It would be the first Bond film based on an original storyline approved by Fleming but not one of his stories. Timothy Dalton briefly appeared as Bond in The Living Daylights (1987) and Licence to Kill (1989) but it was Pierce Bronsnan who would become the next enduring Bond character starring in 3 subsequent films GodenEye (1995), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002). Broccoli then decided to take a fresh look at the Bond series. A number of legal battles and financial problems involving MGM, SONY, Columbia and 20th Century Fox also ensnared production.
In 2006 Broccoli released his new rebooted version of James Bond with an edgy, charismatic actor - Daniel Craig in the title role. Despite a backlash to try and depose Craig as the new Bond the public loved Casino Royale and Craig as 007. A new Bond era was born. Casino Royale would go on to become the most popular Bond film of all time. We can hardly wait for the third Bond film starring Daniel Craig in Skyfall, due to open this November.
