Pure Speculation: XBOX One’s 15 Exclusive Game

Posted 10 years ago by myetvmedia

This week Microsoft unveiled its vision for the future of entertainment in the modern living room. Our very own Max Romano shared his thoughts on the conference along with the rest of the media. Amongst this explosion and confusion of news there seems to be an abundant lack on one very specific topic. The 15 XBOX One franchises, 8 of which are new intellectual properties (IP’s) that will launch within the first year of the next generation console.

This isn’t surprising as there is very little information out there on the topic itself and of course Microsoft is remaining tightlipped until their E3 conference later in June.

So through a journey of painstakingly long research here is a list of the possible 15 exclusive launch games for the XBOX One.

Before we begin it is important to note that this is a combination of research, speculation and a dash of wishful thinking. I would also like to add that I am aware this does not follow the “8 new IP’s logic”. So in no particular order, lets get started.

1) Ryse

Developer Crytek confirmed Ryse as an exclusive title for XBOX One. Ryse was first teased at E3 2010 as codenamed Kingdoms as a Kinect heavy game. Positioned as a gruesome first person combat game that takes place in a Rome of days past. This is the type of game that gamers always wanted when we first heard of Kinect. It will be interesting to see how the new Kinect will enhance the game. However, this game can easily be a flop. By sticking to just being a typical on rail experience with simple inputs such as kick, dodge, shield and attack. This combined with what I think is Kinect’s biggest flaw a lack of user feedback, can make this just another lame Kinect game.

2) Quantum Break

Confirmed at the XBOX event on May 21st, Quantum Break by developer Remdy seems to be align with XBOX’s strategic direction by seemingly blurring the lines between live action television and a gaming experience. This idea seems similar to the recently released open world MMO shooter Defiance that is connected with the global TV program of the same name that airs on Syfy. Although the jury is still out on whether the connection was well done or not, it seems clear that this trans-media strategy is the new “it” thing. Information on Quantum Break is scarce but based on what we have seen it seems like a third-person shooter with some sort of time manipulation element. It also seems like Quantum Break was made instead of a new Alan Wake game. In this day and age of serialization and unoriginality it is refreshing to see someone trying to break the mold put in place during the previous generation.
