Top Ten Movies 11.11.11 and Beyond

A period of cinematic enlightenment, great story telling, amazing actors and the aid of new technology will keep us entranced at the theatre. With so many great new releases where do you start?

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo:

This is a really dark tale about Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara), a complicated young woman with a gift for computer hacking (and a fantastic dragon tattoo). Michael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) a controversial journalist seeks her out under strange circumstances as director David Fincher leads us on tantalizing, thrilling adventure mystery.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows:

Robert Downey Jr. (Holmes) and Jude Law (Dr. Watson, I presume) are the perfect detective team to take on Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris) in this Conan Doyle mystery where only Holmes sees through the artful deceptions. Directed Guy Ritchie.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy:

Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, John Hurt and Benedict Cumberbatch (looks, talent and pedigree) lead us on a thrilling, dangerous, mind-boggling trail of cold-war espionage. Director Tomas Alfredson skillfully spins the tale keeping you guessing till the end. The thriller is based on the first of John le Carré’s best selling spy novels by the same name. Premiered at the Venice Film Festival take a look behind the scenes with the press conference inside story.

Adventures of Tintin:

No wonder Jamie Bell and Daniel Craig wanted to get on set with director Steven Spielberg to retell the well-loved classic comic book tales about Tintin. The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn and Red Rackham’s Treasure are the first and Ubisoft has jumped in with a video game. Can’t wait to join Captain Haddock. Did we mention Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) is producing this?

Hugo:

Ben Kingsley, Jude Law, Sasha Baron Cohen, Asa Butterfield and Chloë Moretz bring a tale of mystery, adventure and magic to the screen under the direction of Martin Scorsese. Its about a very special boy who is given a mysterious mission. It’s co-produced by Johnny Depp so we know it will have high entertainment value, a major dose of action and great story telling.

War Horse:

Benedict Cumberbatch, Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson, David Thewlis (Wow! star studded lineup) under the direction of Steven Spielberg (master story teller), bring this remarkable tale of bravery, spirit, friendship and love to the screen. Horse and human – the power of this bond is tested by the perils of war and beyond. (screen magic – Private Ryan to E.T.)
