Chad Valley (Hugo Manuel) is an up and coming indie pop artist from the UK who is making waves in the Internet blog scene with his lush synth arrangements and infectious vocal style. We sat down with Hugo Manuel at BLK BOX before his performance at the North-by-North-East Festival in Toronto. He gave us insight into what drew him towards a career in music, and what influenced the aesthetic of his most recent release, Young Hunger. Manuel’s music began as rough-around-the-edges bedroom recordings, but, with his most recent album, his music has taken advantage (following the success of his early work) of studio quality production, to deliver enhanced melodies and percussion.
