Who is SHOWTEK? They say some musicians are born stars, and that statement couldn’t be more true than about brothers Sjoerd Janssen and Wouter Janssen; the brains and talent behind the hard-dance duo: Showtek. Sjoerd and Wouter began blasting out experimental beats as teens in 2001. Then they had to sneak out to local parks to play their homemade techno samples. A decade later and 2 albums, multiple awards and co-production credits with Tiesto, it’s safe to say their rise to fame is meteoric.Their live performance is nothing short of “ohmif%&*inggawd!” incredible. Long before their collab “Hell Yeah” with Tiesto the two brothers were hard at work behind the scenes, co-producing tracks with the wonder DJ like “We Rock” and “Maximal Crazy”. At the moment they’ve been touring all summer with Identity Festival, collaborating with Hardwell and generally dominating the globe one fan at a time. Sjoerd and Wouter say it isn’t about the fame or the money it’s about being happy. It’s all about giving their fans an unforgettable experience.
Duke Ellington once wisely sang “It don’t mean a thing if you ain’t got that swing” and I often find myself repeating those sentiments when it comes to live electronic music performances. At my core, all I care about is one thing: Does it move me? What I’m talking about right now is literal movement. Does It Move ME?! Honestly, for the most part, the answer is no. I’m shy. I can’t dance worth a dime, so if a live electronic music performance makes me want to jump out of my seat, flail like a wild-woman and head bop till I sprain something important, then that my friends it is a live performance to write about. So here I am, writing home about Showtek. Collabs like crazy, dominating BBC1 and MTV and touring the globe. Showtek the showstoppers. myETVmedia had the good fortune to meet this dynamic, talented duo on stage at IDENTITY Festival and you will see what I mean.
