Posted 10 years ago by myetvmedia

The world of gaming art has talent and depth that will blow you away. Amongst the flood of awesome art there are a few recurring names of artists that deserved to have their artwork and their personalities highlighted. Kody Christian.

Kody is a 24 year old artist based in Kentucky and most of his art is inspired by comic books and video games. He has also done some exclusive work for The Yetee Art Gallery in Chicago and a Gears of War cartridge for 72 Pins.

When asked about his style Kody had this to say:

“My style has changed quite a bit though to a more illustrative style. I’ve had the opportunity to do some pieces for some decently popular Youtube Let’s Players and even do some web design for a couple of other blogs that have really helped me get started and make my work somewhat quasi successful.”

How long have you been into art and at what point did you want to start publicly displaying your art?

Kody
“Pretty much my entire childhood revolved around getting my hands on typing paper and doing fan-art for Super Mario Bros. Granted, I was a kid so not many of my pieces were gallery worthy, haha. But a few of them did make it onto the fridge. But as a I grew up, a lot of my technique matured and I started feeling confident that I maybe could make a go of selling art online. About four years ago was the first time I posted anything I thought could sell. It was my Super Mario Typography. Pretty much from there on out I pursued a passion to do art for a living.”

A lot of your art features video games and typography, why did you marry these two things?

Kody
“Typography has always been one of my favorite kinds of art. I love the focus on creating fonts and letters that are more than just ways to communicate. More than just pieces of info. Something aesthetically pleasing in type is amazing to me. Video games have always been a love of mine as well. So I just combined my two loves and made an art baby. What I do I don’t know if it could be considered typography technically. More of a weird typographic hybrid that mixes art with info. But playing with words to create shapes — even vague shapes — looks nice to me.”
