How to Get A Free Pass to the 2013 Canadian Screen Awards

Martin Short will host the inaugural Canadian Screen Awards at the Sony Centre, March 3rd, 2013 at 8pm in Toronto, Canada. The two-hour show will be aired live on CBC Sunday night. Canadian talent has a long history of international recognition at the Oscars and Cannes. A lineup of celebrity presenters and award nominees will showcase and celebrate Canadian film and television excellence. Forget the Genies, these are more like the Peoples’ Choice Awards combining the worlds of Film, Television and Digital Media.  You can be a part of the action.

There are 120 awards on the slate, some of which will be given out ahead of Sunday at a series of industry celebrations held at the Toronto Convention Centre. Best Picture is one of the high profile awards to will be given out Sunday night. It will be chosen from 6 nominees including War Witch (Rebelle), which has earned multiple awards including a Best Foreign Film Oscar nomination, L’Affaire Dumont, Inch’Allah, Laurence Anyways, Midnight’s Children, and Still Mine. Rachel Mwanza has travelled all the way from the Congo along with cast members Alain Bastien, Ralph Prosper and Mizinga Mwinga to be in Los Angeles and now in Toronto for the awards!

It’s a big night and a big gamble. Yes this is the Canadian version of the Peoples Choice Awards orchestrated by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. It represents a new era for the celebration of excellence in Canadian achievement in film and television. The Academy is putting four million dollars into the event. It’s this infusion of money, energy and glamour the industry needs. And it needs you.
