Time for an update! May 2012

Life for the myETVmedia website continues to be a great adventure since our Sept. 8th 2010 launch. We have met a lot of really creative, cool people and seen some amazing things. Here are some highlights.

Film & Video Games:
Highlights of the past year include the Venice International Film Festival, the world’s oldest film festival; TIFF Toronto International Film Festival, the most anticipated international film festival and the Oscars aka Academy Awards, the world’s oldest, most prestigious film awards event.

We are right in the middle of HOT DOCS and loving the crazy world of documentary film.  All this year’s Oscar nominees for Foreign & Documentary Film categories deserved the prize. Those doc makers cover everything. Some is very sobering but so well told. So if we get a little uptight sometimes about human rights and environmental activism, think it through, cause so should you.

On a lighter note there was the ‘Fellini Spectacular Obsessions’ at TIFF and Vampire Diaries at Wizard World Comic Con.

In the world of video gaming what can beat the monster E3 event in LA and joining 70,000 fans at PAX PRIME! Reviewing video games is serious business. The team has had a lot of eyeball burning, neck cricking, finger numbing, all-nighter experience with this so we know what we are talking about. We boldly set up our own GOTY Awards and looked at LOVE, SEX & ROMANCE in the Cyber World for Valentine’s. We will be stepping up our coverage now that we have got past being the ‘new kids on the block’.

Music:
Music, art and fashion continue to mesmerize. We found Montreal, Canada deservedly earning its entertainment reputation: Bal en Blanc (The White Ball) the massive spring electronic music party where the costumed partiers are part of the performance; Igloofest (20,000 partying in subzero temperatures every weekend in February!), Piknic Électronik (the summer long all-family weekend event) and the return of the Montreal Grand Prix being highlights for myETVmedia. WMC (Winter Music Conference) & BPM in Miami; Ibiza, U2 and Pearl Jam Concerts (Toronto); WEMF (World Electronic Music Festival), Algonquin Park & Wakestock, Collingwood. Our music team has BIG plans for this year!

Fashion:
In fashion, the World Premiere’s of the John Paul Gaultier Exhibit: From Sidewalk to Catwalk (MMFA Montreal) launched our focus on fashion in film. FIDM in LA opened their doors to us for a look at this year’s Oscar winning costumes. Nick Verreos, fashion guru extraordinaire, gave us a personal glimpse of the costume designers’ world. As Gaultier knows, fashion comes from the street so FAToronto caught our attention.

Special Series & Features:
We have created some unique series including: The Best Comic Books of All Time, featuring 12 Franco Belgium and 12 Anglo American for a top 24 selection of the Best ever written. Our in house experts have collected comics for years and love this art form. Film Ratings – What The @!# Does It Mean was created partly in response to the furor over the doc “Bully” and to explore the excellence of R rated films. Oscar Mania was how we felt going on our first trip to the 83rd Academy Awards. We have expanded it to feature many aspects of the Red Carpet Oscar action. Fashion in Film will be a continuing feature. We will refresh our Weekly Dose and Top Pics for movies, video games and music events of the month.

TV, Art & Culture:
El Anatsui’s World Premiere of “When I Last Wrote to You About Africa” showcasing his remarkable shimmering art made from bottle caps, stunned and amazed the world. It launched at the ROM in Toronto, Canada and myETVmedia was there.  We were thrilled that HBO allowed us to cover the Game of Thrones Exhibit at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.  We went to the Getty in LA and Zona Maco in Mexico City. Picasso has just returned to the AGO, Toronto, after 45 years for the final exhibit of masterpieces from the The Musée National Picasso, Paris. We used an iPhone 4Sto capture the essence of Picasso’s genius.

TV programming has hit a new high thank God. Game of Thrones and Mad Men are just two of the series that are superb and we are totally impassioned with. George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series was a favourite read years ago and we knew it would take a special team to bring it faithfully to the screen.

Corporate Productions:
We have some very exciting projects we are working on with corporate clients, which will be revealed this year. Living with film, art, culture, architecture & music are the themes.
